Shop vehicle-specific ignition coil and spark plug kits for complete ignition-system service. Available sets combine the correct number of coils and plugs for many 4-cylinder, V6, and V8 applications. Enter your year, make, and model, then confirm the engine, coil connector, spark plug specification, kit contents, and all fitment notes before ordering.

Make Sure the Kit Covers the Engine You Are Servicing

An ignition coil and spark plug kit can simplify a complete tune-up, but only when both parts match the exact engine. The same vehicle may use different engines, coil connectors, coil shapes, spark plug materials, or production-date applications.

Before ordering, verify:

  • Year, make, model, trim, engine size, and cylinder count
  • Coil connector, terminal count, body shape, and boot length
  • Spark plug thread size, reach, seat type, heat range, and electrode material
  • The number of coils and plugs actually included
  • Production-date, VIN, or engine-code notes shown in the fitment details

What Does an 8-, 12-, or 16-Piece Kit Include?

The piece count usually refers to the combined number of ignition coils and spark plugs, not the number of coils alone. For example, an 8-piece kit commonly contains four coils and four plugs for a four-cylinder engine; a 12-piece kit may contain six of each for a V6; and a 16-piece kit may contain eight of each for a V8.

Do not rely on the set number alone. Always read the “Included Items” or package-content details, since configurations can vary by application.

Why Are Ignition Coils and Spark Plugs Often Replaced Together?

The ignition coil creates the high voltage needed to fire the spark plug. The spark plug then uses that voltage to ignite the air-fuel mixture inside the cylinder. If the plug is worn, fouled, cracked, or incorrectly gapped, the coil may need to produce more voltage to create a spark. Learn more about how worn spark plugs can overwork ignition coils.

Replacing both can make sense when the spark plugs are already due, several original coils have become unreliable, or access requires removing the intake manifold or other components. Completing both jobs during the same service can reduce the chance of paying for the same disassembly again.

However, new spark plugs do not automatically require new ignition coils. If the coils are relatively new, undamaged, and operating correctly, replacing only the scheduled spark plugs may be the more economical choice. Likewise, one confirmed coil failure does not prove that every coil has failed.

A complete kit is often the practical choice when:

  • The spark plugs are already due for scheduled replacement
  • Several original coils are showing age-related problems
  • Coil boots are cracked, swollen, or contaminated
  • Access requires significant intake or rear-bank disassembly
  • You want one matched order for a full ignition-system service

Does a Misfire Mean You Need the Complete Kit?

Not necessarily. A Check Engine Light, rough idle, hesitation, hard starting, reduced power, or cylinder misfire can be caused by either side of the ignition system—or by something outside it.

Possible causes include:

  • Worn, fouled, cracked, or incorrectly gapped spark plugs
  • A weak or electrically damaged ignition coil
  • Torn coil boots or carbon tracking
  • Oil or coolant inside the spark plug well
  • Damaged coil connectors or wiring
  • Fuel-injector or fuel-pressure problems
  • Vacuum leaks
  • Low compression
  • Incorrect engine timing

A cylinder-specific code such as P0301 identifies a misfire on a cylinder; it does not by itself prove that the coil and plug both need replacement. Inspect the plug, coil boot, connector, and plug well. When appropriate, moving the suspected coil to another cylinder and checking whether the misfire follows can help separate a coil problem from a plug, injector, wiring, or mechanical fault.

Avoid continuing to drive with an active or flashing Check Engine Light. A severe misfire can send unburned fuel into the exhaust and overheat the catalytic converter.

When Is a Complete Coil and Spark Plug Kit the Better Choice?

A complete kit is most useful when:

  • The spark plugs are due according to the vehicle maintenance schedule.
  • Multiple original ignition coils are failing or showing heat damage.
  • Coil boots are cracked, swollen, oil-soaked, or carbon-tracked.
  • The engine has high mileage and the coils share similar service history.
  • Accessing the rear bank requires removing an intake manifold.
  • You want to avoid mixing old and new ignition components across cylinders.
  • Separate coils and plugs would cost more or require multiple orders.
  • You are completing a planned full-engine ignition refresh.

Buying a kit is less compelling when only one easily accessible coil has failed, the spark plugs were recently replaced, and the remaining coils test and operate normally. In that case, review whether it makes more sense to replace one ignition coil or the full set.

Why Choose A-Premium Ignition Coil and Spark Plug Kits?

Ignition work becomes frustrating when the coil connector is wrong, the plug specification does not match, or a “16-piece” set is mistaken for 16 coils. It is even worse to discover the mismatch after the intake has already been removed.

A-Premium listings bring the coils, spark plugs, fitment notes, and package quantities together so you can check the complete repair before ordering. This helps reduce separate orders, mixed component specifications, and an interrupted installation caused by missing parts.

A-Premium operates as a brand-direct supplier, avoiding additional distributor markups while offering competitively priced complete ignition-service options. Eligible kits include a two-year warranty and 90-day free returns, subject to the individual product listing and policy terms. If the engine version, terminal count, coil shape, spark plug type, or package quantity is unclear, customer service can help verify the application before purchase.

Ignition Coil and Spark Plug Kit FAQs

Do new ignition coils require new spark plugs?

Not always. If the plugs are the correct specification, in good condition, and within their service interval, they may be reused. Replace them when they are worn, fouled, damaged, incorrectly gapped, or already due for service.

Does a 16-piece kit contain 16 ignition coils?

Usually not. For many V8 applications, a 16-piece kit contains eight coils and eight spark plugs. Confirm the listed package contents before ordering.

Can the wrong spark plug damage an ignition coil?

A plug with the wrong gap, heat range, reach, resistance, or application can cause poor ignition performance and may increase the voltage demand placed on the coil. Use the plug specification listed for the exact engine.

Should all ignition coils be replaced when one fails?

Not automatically. A single confirmed failure can often be repaired individually. Replacing the full set may make sense when multiple original coils are failing, access is labor-intensive, or the vehicle has high and uniform component age.

Why is the engine still misfiring after replacing coils and plugs?

Recheck connector seating, firing-cylinder identification, plug gap and torque, damaged boots, and fluid in the plug wells. If those are correct, diagnose wiring, injectors, intake leaks, compression, and timing rather than replacing more ignition parts without testing.
