Choose a CV Axle Shaft for the Correct Position

A CV axle shaft transfers drive torque while its joints accommodate suspension movement and, on driven steering axles, steering angles. Start a CV axle replacement by entering the exact year, make, model, trim, engine, transmission, and drive type. Then verify front or rear placement, driver or passenger side, quantity, and every application note. Similar-looking shafts can differ in length, joint design, splines, ABS provisions, and mounting details. Use the VIN when the selector presents more than one drivetrain or production option.

Single Axles, Pairs, and Position-Specific Assemblies

A CV axle shaft assembly may be sold as one side, a driver-and-passenger pair, or a front or rear set. Current A-Premium listings include a single front driver-side unit, paired front assemblies, and paired rear assemblies, so quantity and position need separate confirmation. Do not assume the left and right sides share dimensions or interchange.

Match the drivetrain configuration

Some listed powersports axles also exclude lifted vehicles or particular suspension layouts. Treat each note as part of fitment, even when the year and model appear correct.

Inspect CV Joints and Boots Before Ordering

Clicking during turns, vibration under acceleration, or grease thrown around the joint area can justify inspection, but none of these observations alone proves the CV joint axle is defective. Check the boots for cuts, tears, punctures, missing or loose clamps, and visible grease slinging. On some applications, light surface grease may not indicate a torn boot; clean the area and inspect the boot and clamps before deciding on replacement.

Also inspect tires, suspension parts, axle fasteners, transmission or differential leaks, and the wheel hub bearing. Humming that changes with road speed may involve a bearing, while vibration can come from several rotating or supporting components. Confirm the source before buying a replacement CV axle assembly.

Verify Fitment Details That Change the Axle

Use the vehicle selector, then read the product-page compatibility table and notes. Compare overall configuration, inner and outer joint ends, spline information when listed, ABS-related details, sealing surfaces, and included hardware with the removed axle. Chassis ranges, submodels, transmission type, and production dates can narrow fitment within the same model year.

If a vehicle has been lifted or modified, do not rely on stock fitment data without checking operating angles and the product restrictions. An altered ride height may place a CV axle outside the conditions covered by its listing. Contact support with the VIN and modification details when the product note does not resolve the question.

Complete the Replacement with System Checks

Support the vehicle safely and follow its service procedure for axle removal, seals, retaining hardware, and axle-nut tightening. Check the engine mount and transmission mounts if movement under load contributed to the complaint, but replace them only after inspection. After installation, confirm the axle is fully seated, boots are not twisted, clamps remain secure, and no fluid leaks or unusual noises appear during a controlled road check.
